Students’ Union


(1) Aims

  1. To commit to the spirit of Salesian Preventive System established by St. Bosco (i.e. religion, reason and loving-kindness).

  2. To implement the education objective of nurturing students’ integral development.

  3. To develop students’ potentials for leadership and their sense of co-responsibility in the school.

  4. To foster a good school spirit.


(2) Structure

  1. Supervisory members—one Chief Advisor and two teachers (members of the Supervisory Committee) appointed by the Principal.

  2. Administrative members—a President and two Vice-Presidents.

  3. Managerial members—the Officers and Vice-Officers from the five departments (the Activity Department, the Academics Department, the Publicity Department, the General Affairs Department and the Secretarial Department), altogether 9 members.

  4. Executive members—28 members.


(3) Role and Responsibilities

  1. To set a good role model for fellow members.

  2. To render educational services to the school and fellow students.

  3. To help fellow students observe discipline in the school.

  4. To be socially conscious and serve others by actively participating in and organizing meaningful activities.


(4) Procedures for Appointment

  1. Election to be held every two years in the school.

  2. Students may elect one group from the candidate groups (each consisting of a President and a First Vice-President) nominated by teachers.

  3. All classes may elect one class representative for the Students’ Union.

  4. The Supervisory Committee may appoint ten fellow students with good behaviour and good academic performance for the Students’ Union, while the elected President may appoint eight.

  5. The Second Vice-President is appointed by the Chief Advisor and Supervisors. The other posts are appointed through consultation and discussion among members.


(5) Duties and Authority of the President and the Vice-President

  1. To call a meeting regularly or when necessary, with the presence of the teachers from the Supervisory Committee.

  2. To plan and organize educational activities and to facilitate the implementation of the activities.

  3. To maintain good communication between members, and to improve present situations through exchanging experiences as well as consulting teachers from the Supervisory Committee.

  4. To lead the Students’ Union and to facilitate the communication/cooperation between students, the school and Society.

  5. As for important decisions, the President should first discuss with teachers of the Supervisory Committee.

  6. The First Vice-President takes President’s place during his absence.


(6) Duties and Authority of the Officers and the Vice-Officers

  1. To manage well the departments concerned.

  2. To organize educational activities and to provide other departments with assistance.

  3. To cooperate with supervisory members and administrative members closely to assist the President and Vice-President to plan activities.

  4. Proposals regarding the welfare of individual students should be presented to supervisory members and administrative members for approval before they can be carried out.


(7) Duties and Authority of the members

  1. To attend meetings called by the President and to carry out duties assigned.

  2. To bring forward zealously relevant proposals to supervisory members and administrative members.

  3. To communicate with higher authorities when encountering problems and collaborate to solve problems.

  4. Proposals regarding the welfare of individual students should be presented to supervisory members and administrative members for approval before they can be carried out.
